The
Future:
Be Afraid. Be Very
Afraid.
The future holds no
promise of easy solutions. Do you suppose Best Buy or any of
the other chains is recruiting bright people and training
them? Things are going to get a lot worse! The tip of the
iceberg in computer sales will not even show itself until
Christmas 1998. Everybody has already seen the words,
"PRICEDROP!"
Beginning Christmas
1998 computer prices are going to attract large numbers of
people. Guaranteed to be in that number are the functional
illiterates. People who can read only at very low levels.
Regardless of their lack of reading skill they will be
required to own computers and be connected to the net . Peer
pressure alone will force them onto the www. Just like the
CB Radio craze. Everybody had to have one. And just like the
upsurge in buying when the cost of a VCR came down. People
bought them who could not program the clock. The already
overwhelmed tech will be further buried.
The smart retailer
would pay computer technicians money enough to keep them on
staff. The smart retailer would underwrite continuing
education and pay more for the guy who knows
more.
The smart retailer
would advertise these facts. Can you imagine how much they
would save in attorney's fees alone?
