Myra has come up with a
plan. The plan is for Leila to take even more time,
money, and trouble to fix Best Buy's mistakes. It is a
good plan. For Best Buy! I doubt very much that Myra came
up with this plan on her own. I am pretty sure that this
plan has had a long history and serious use.
Unfortunately the plan does not have a section in it
labeled, "APOLOGY." The only thing that a large
company understands is it's bottom line. An apology from
a company then, should include what it holds most dear.
Best Buy is just like any other bottom line company. They
understand profit and loss. When you deal fairly you
profit. When you don't, you lose. Best Buy does
not have an apology section in their corporate plan for
dealing with screwups. I made one up.
What they should have done is
exchange Leila's two month old computer for a brand new
one. Said, "I'm sorry. We screwed up. Here is your $39.99
back." Lacking an apology plan nobody had guts enough to
admit that they did any wrong. Their attitude seems to
be, "If we did any thing wrong. It is up to you to prove
it in court."
Be that as it may. I think by
way of apology for the screw up, the lies, and the
cover-up Best Buy should give Leila a brand new computer.
A computer that is superior to the one they screwed
up.
By now both Leila and I are a
little angry. Well, furious, may be a better word. So I
send Myra back the list of items that I want for Leila as
an apology plus a new computer
I also asked Myra to send me
the certification paperwork on the technicians that
worked on Leila's computer. Myrar replied that she is,
"unable to release internal information regarding our
employees." Now hold on Myra! I didn't ask for
their tax records or phone numbers. I just wanted to see
some paperwork saying that these people were certified to
do their jobs! Given Best Buy's aggressive marketing and
advertising campaigns I would be in shock if they did not
shout about it to the high heavens if their technicians
were certified.
Myra suggested that I contact
the manufacturers
to determine if Best Buy was,"authorized," to work on
their equipment. So I sent Packard Bell and Microtek
certified letters asking that very question on March 25,
1998. So far I have not heard back from either of them.
Evidently these two companies are in no great big bustin'
hurry to put it in writing that Best Buy is authorized to
do anything on their behalf.
