This is Smoky. His main job is to fertilize the garden. He works hard at it all winter long. Smoky is a comfort in other ways. Just petting his back can lower your blood pressure. He does not consider himself an outdoor dog. In fact, he is the first dog that I have ever met who owns property. His collar, for instance. If you take it off him he watches you close and bothers you until you put it back on his neck. He also owns a couch. A fan in summer and the heater vent in winter. Smoky eats very well. He says that he needs to in order to do his job.

I do not like the idea of putting chemicals on my garden to kill bugs. There are bugs out there that love to eat roses but killing them with chemicals is the last resort. What I do is feed the birds throughout the winter. Once birds know that your yard and your rose garden is a source of food they return through the spring and summer. Birds just love to eat bugs from rose bushes. Ya gotta love 'em.
